External speaker output weirdness
I'm having strange problems with the external speakers I have hooked up to my dual 1.42 machine. OS 10.2.4, 1.5gb RAM. Cambiridge Soundworks speakers. I have an Aurora Igniter card with seperate audio outputs which don't seem to be affected.
The sound will periodically cut out, and not come back unless I remove and replace the audio jack in the back of the computer.
Final Cut Pro seems to interfere especially when iTunes is playing, and After Effects sporadically interrupts it when rendering. Also, switching programs will briefly interrupt iTunes. I launched Entourage and heard no startup chime, so went to the preferences and clicked on some of the notification alert previews and heard nothing. I then removed and replaced the minijack a few seconds later and heard all the sounds one after another, including the startup. So it seems the sounds had been 'held up' by the machine, and not just inaudible.
I had no problems with my old 400 mhz machine with the same software and speakers.
Anyone else had this sort of thing, or know what might be causing it?
