Encrypted folders in Outlook after macOs update

A friend(real) recently installed the OS 11.2 update on a late  2014 iMac with an unknown version of Sierra. Among other things her Outlook emails were put in encrypted folders and are not accessible and MS Office software was unusable. They were advised to update to current MS software(including Outlook) and it works but these folders are still encrypted.
Any help? Thank you.
