Well, there's been another hole in found in Windows. How many of these security holes are there in Windows? Jeez. It's getting to be a little ridiculous. It seems like every week there's a new one.

    Hmmm...no love for Win NT.

    Who cares?

    Besides the people using Windows...

This information isn't very useful to most people unless they're interested in ammo for OS wars.

This one in particular isn't too worrisome and I thought I was immune from having to worry about MS security problems (my server runs apache, etc.), but when the SQL Slammer came around, it, for all intents and purposes, killed my server too because it was unreachable. They are a menace to society.

It seems mac users are more interested in these flaws than window users.

Agreed. And it *does* matter for us--it is a PC world, and I'm always glad we keep discussing other OSes here, or it gets too damn insular.

Yep, there were 2 other MS patches released either last week or the week before last... I lose track of what I read at C|Net.

Many of the people here use Windows too (even if they do hold their noses while doing so ). And I think it's a valid argument. If OS X can distinguish itself as having much better security, that's a big step in being accepted in enterprise settings. Apple shouldn't just be for "artsy" people. If they want to regain a significant market share, they have to be seen as a "serious" OS as well.

I use Windows, and I have exclusively for a week as my iBook has been in for repairs. It's not that bad, really, from an end-user standpoint. That is, as long as you're already familiar with computer lingo and the like. So beginners shouldn't use it as it'll be confusing, and real hard-core users shouldn't use it because it's too restricting (but I suppose if you're hard-core, you know how to get around the restrictiveness). I thought OS X seemed restrictive after using system 7-OS 9 for years and years, but Windows is much worse. Although I do like that it has a built in defrag utility. OS X could benefit from that.

The thing is, I'm not concerned about security because I never do anything really important on this computer. I almost always use the Mac when buying online, or anything else really. This PC is basically just for use in lieu of the Mac, or for games. In fact, I'm even considering replacing the PC with an XBox because I basically only use it for games anyway, but I just got Warcraft III and it runs amazingly well on this PC so I think I'll be keeping it for a good week or two more.

Yeah, boy, that Mac OS X sure doesn't have that many security updates.

Oh wait... Mac OS X Security Updates

    Weapons of ass destruction?

It's not exactly a secret that M$ wants NT 4.0 users to get the hell off it: why else does the NT homepage at microsoft.com have lots of ads for XP at the top? Not to mention how far you have to dig through the M$ site just to find NT...

/me kicks Win '95 box again...
