Have you asked a local music shop? That's where I'd start, since I also have no idea. I personally went for the grunge look with my trombone, smashing the case into hard snowbanks, allowing the shiny finish to wear off and using looseleaf as a replacement cork for the spit valve.
When I had a dent taken out of the F attachment on my Conn 88HT, I went to a local shop. My trombone was originally gold brass plated with a rose brass bell. I took the liberty to ask them about stripping the lacquer and plating and having it completely replated in rose brass. They said that could be done, though I don't think they did the repair-work themselves. They just sent it off the to right place. In the end, I ended up paying almost as much as I did for the horn originally cost.
