I just hope Apple prices it right, and that there is something about it that differentiates it from all the other Wintels out there. I've seen some Wintel combos that come with LCD displays for under $1000, that have more features than the current iMac. If Apple is going to make this new product a hit, it's got to have something special. A new display and some minor motherboard tweaks isn't going to cut it.

I'm not so sure. On December 13, Macintouch reported:

Macintouch doesn't screw around with rumors unless they come from a SOLID source, so there's pretty good reason to believe the new iMac will just be dressing on the side of a bigger announcement.

Well if there's a G5 then one would assume the iMac would go G4, that'd certainly help make it more competative along with an LCD ...

When the iMac came out it was a G3, just like the PM, why couldn't the iMac and PM go G5, whle iBook and PB get G4's..



The G3 was not new when the iMac came out, I know.



I think Apple is going to release a digital imaging device. Why not an attachment to the iPod that captures images and video?

Heh, not really. In July 1999 (or so,) Macintouch announced 550 MHz G3 towers. Of course, they were completely wrong, and the 500 MHz G4 was announced in at Seybold SF a month or two later.



And remember, 550 MHz would have been a monster speedbump back then. The fastest Mac at the time was the PowerMac G3/450

Easy. The G3 was originally designed to be a lowerclass processor, with the 604 in the 85/9500 being the high end. However the potencial of the G3 was soon realised, and it scaled up into the higher models, with the iMac later released with a slower G3.



I saw a G3 gossamar about 2 months before they launched And bought one, upon seeing it (... and waited 2 months). They were ****ing fast then. Shit slow now

The title is deceiving. I thought it was about the next iDevice and the new iMac while revoluionary most likely at least shouldv'e been mentioned in the title.
