I just got my new issue of Rolling Stone and their is an article entitled:

Pay for Play Can the iPod save the music business? Check it out it's on page 22 of the April 17th issue.

There is not much new info. It says that the service could be available before summer, and that major label execs are declining to comment. But that some of them confirmed that they are in talks with Apple.

A site called "Apple Insider" suggests the pay per track service via iTunes (no monthly fee) will debut on April 28.

"A rolling stone gathers no moss". (Just thought I'd mention this old saying).

With a name like "Apple Insider", I bet they have the inside scoop on these things.

I thought it was: "a Rolling Stone can go out with Kate Moss"?

railheaddesign is reporting a new build of itunes (4?) to link in with the new music service.

thats going to annoy those people on modems that bought ilife, and now have to download a new version. but then if they are on a modem they won't be using this service much anyway...

I keep asking myself why they think people will gladly pay for one song when they can get most of/all they want for free from the very same net.

Because most normal users really can't figure out the PP stuff anyway. As long as the price is low enough. Its worth it.

Most people arn't really comfortable with stealing. I think right now the real problem is that there is no real alternative if you want a song imidiatly.

well that depends on how cheap and how many songs there are, i know thta kazaa is pretty easy adn hads a large selection, i hope that apple's service can beat the selection of even aquistion, because i dont like the idea of paying for a service that is inferior to a free one

pay per song is a double edged sword, if its a good selection i'd want a monthly fee so i can dl all i want, but if its a per song thing then i'd hope the selection isn't that good so i only have to pay for the songs i want

I have downloaded some music off the internet, but I try to avoid it and I always feel a little guilty afterwards. I have the technical know-how to do that, but I still don't want to. Usually, in order for me to download a song, it has to be the only song I know or the only good one from that artist. However, if they have a bunch of songs I like, I would buy the CD. If Apple released a good music service (not prohibitive DRM), I would easily buy a bunch of songs that I have downloaded over the years, but that aren't worth enough to me to buy a CD. It is called "Supporting the artist."

I agree with adpowers. Their are plenty of people who would like a to LEGALLY download music. It is a good for the consumer and the music industry.
