Adaptec 2930CU / heidelberg scanner :-(

I have a small problem.
My SCSI scanner (Heidelberg Saphire Ultra II) is not being recognized in system profiler.
The SCSI card itself (Adaptec 2930CU), is showing ok.
I downloaded latest drivers, other than that it can either be scsi cable or scanner problem.
But scanner worked great under OS 9 (using the same cable) so i don't think this is the problem.
VueScan and SilverFast claim to work with this type of scanner, but both programs won't see it.
I searched the web, and it seems there are many people having problems with 2930 and scanners. So my question is: What other SCSI card can i use? (something not too expensive). Adaptec 2906 looks like it may do the trick, but i believe it uses the same driver.
