Apple debuts animated Ted Lasso short for the holiday season

A new five-minute animated short has popped up on the Apple TV+ YouTube channel, staring characters from Apple's hit series "Ted Lasso."

The stop-motion short, dubbed "Ted Lasso -- The Missing Christmas Mustache," features the voice talents of the ensemble cast. The short pays homage to the style of Christmas classics like the 1964 Rankin/Bass special, "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer."

The short follows the titular character, Ted Lasso, who has lost his mustache just before his Christmas FaceTime call with his son, Henry. Ted and his friends join together in an attempt to solve the problem, and along the way, Ted learns the real meaning of Christmas.

"Ted Lasso" has been Apple's breakout hit, with the series fueling significant audience gains.

The series has begun racking up nominations this award season, including four Golden Globe nominations, four Critics Choice TV award nominations, and was named an AFI award honoree.

This show is both critical acclaimed and extremely popular, yet most of the rest of Apple's shows are about things like innocent people being charged with murder, psychological horror, end of the world shows, or end of the galaxy shows. Maybe Apple should do more uplifting comedies. I'd like to see some farces. I know many have tried and failed at this one, but I'd like to see Apple do a remake of "The IT Crowd." Most of the original actors are still available. In fact, one of the actors did a voice character in one of Apple's shows this year.
