Create new Layer adjustment Curves (yin/Yang icon at bottom of Layers pallete or from Layer menu/ New adjustment Layer

This creates a layer that receives any alterations, treatments so you don't actally touch the original.

Pin the midtones, (click on middle line 50/50 co-ordinates) then adjust highlights and shadows accordingly to saturate. (drag top dot left, and bottom dot right).

If you need to make further adjustments, click the curves icon on the adjustment layer you created.

You might also duplicate the image to another layer, then set the blending mode to a dodge or screen. (you can then erase, paint or adjust certain areas of this layer, any way you want.) Lower the opacity accordingly.

Remember to be very subtle and don't be afraid to build up your layers to experiment, if you make a mistake use you history pallete. When you get to a stage that you like, take a history snapshot (read about this in help)

Also read up and experiment with channels (Photoshops most important and powerful feature (Essential for masks etc).

    Hope this helps
