Spurious characters in iCal icon

Everytime I launch iCal nowadays I get spurious characters in the icon, where the month should be.
WTF?
Is this a known bug? Is there a workaround?

Yep, that's exactly what it looks like!
A quick look at your link would suggest that it's not uncommon!

It's a conflict between Apple and non-Apple versions of Helvetica Neue. Check your font folders. I thought this was fixed in latest version of iCal, because I haven't had this problem recently.

There's a thread at MacNN in which someone had this problem. Maybe there are answers there.
