How do actors and atheletes get this crazy goatees? I see dudes with really thin, sculpted goatees that look perfectly symeterical and even. I try and shave/trim my goatee and end with a crooked mess. I am tring to grow just the part on my chin (not the sides or the upper lip), but I can't seem to make it even on the front.

Well you have to bear in mind that nSync and the Backstreet Boys have stylists with all kinds of cool tools to do that. It's hard to cut/trim something yourself (while working with one hand while looking in a mirror), so they probably have people do it for them.

That's my guess on it because, to be honest, I've never really seen a "real" person (a non-famous, joe-on-the-street type) with such a perfectly formed/trimmed goatee, sideburns or other facial hair display. It's only celebrities that seem to have that razor-sharp, precision goatee/sideburn thing going.

There's a HUGE difference in appearance/quality when I trim my sideburns, holding some piece-of-shit scissors and balancing a mirror in one hand and cutting "backwards" (viewing in a mirror) than there is when I get it done while getting a haircut by a trained professional who actually has a clue.

Just get rich and famous and you can hire some cutie-pie to keep you all trimmed up (no pun intended).

What are you using? When first grew a beard I was using the pop-up thing on a regular electric razor to hilarious results. I bought a $30 trimming set with attachments for different lengths and it helped a lot.

Look, before you go and shave your facial hair, you should consider the metaphor that opened my eyes. Since a Dutch guy (with whom I share, if you didn't know, a language) named a goatee a 'sprekende kut' or, (if you're not 18, maybe close your eyes, I don't know if this world is 'acceptable' in the US) 'talking vagina', I kind of decided never to have one. And I cannot loose the image everytime I see someone with one. Ugh.

der kopf, I prefer the term prison pussy. Anyway have you thought about going to a barber? It's ten bucks to get a haircut or a shave here in New York, I would think an old school barber would do the trick.
