Norton won't repair disk
I have an additional internal Western Digital Caviar 180GB drive installed in my dual 1.42 machine. I've run Norton Disk Doctor on it over and over again and still get the same Major Error notification despite it telling me all problems were fixed each time.
This is the report:

I've taken all the files off, so what's the best way to re-format it and start again?
Once upon a time you could put almost any old version of Norton into a mac & it would do the job neatly and without too much fuss.
Over the years Norton has become bloatware with lots of idiocyncracies including only running in relation to the system/mac that was appropriate for such & such a model.
This has led to forcing people to buy newer copies of norton to "match" their macs & O/s systems.
It then becomes a matter of compatability
So my question to you would be
( A ) Which mac are you running?
( B ) What O/s version ?
( C ) What version of Norton's Disk Doctor ?
It could be a programme thing but I will hold back on that for the moment.
If in case you want to wipe the disk, I suggest you do a " low level format " followed by a " zeroing of all data "
OS 10.2.5
Norton 7.0.3
And how do I do a low level zero everything format?
I had troubles with the latest Norton works 2. It kept crashing on my machine. Nortons finally admitted to the problem after much arm twisting & legal threats.
They posted me a new version just two weeks ago, thats how recent the problem was.
Interestingly, I did some other research & found that
IDE type drives work around blocks not by eliminating them, but locking them out of the way.
Start up from Nortons then go to Drive Set up functions (on hard-drive not the disk ) & select option zero all data.
The second option is to use disk wipe from Norton.
But with either you will loose all data.
Apparently, the other thing with the later drives such as yours, is that such "blocks" are actually isolated from the system rather than steamrolled with zeros.
Same report still.
It may not cure the problems you are having, but because it comes at Block disk problems in an entirely different way to that of Norton, there is a good possibility that it will be able to cure you hard-drive woes.
Good luck
