quicktime crash

I often get random crashes when rendering from After Effects, and they're complete system freezes, not even allowing me to force quit but needing a hard restart by holding the power key down.

I'm using 10.2.5 on a dual 1.42, AE 5.5.1

It specifically seems to happen when I render out using the Animation codec at highest quality. Don't seem to have any trouble with other codecs.

What's the best way to do a clean re-install of Quicktime, and is that likely to be the problem?

    Jason,

Freezes like these can be usually put down to one of two things.

    ( A ) Extension Conflicts.

( B ) Programme size relative to ram needs.

The latter is thhe most likely & luckily the most easy to

    " cure ".

Just increase the size of application's ram usage.

Click on the program symbol with out actually opening it. Then go to " Get imformation " select Memory option and in the " preferred size " box, increase what ever it has listed by say 50%.

In most cases it should cure the freeze.

    Duhh!

You still have extensions in OS-X via any programme running classic or carbon.

Granted the OS-X part "shouldn't be affected" but that's not always the case.
