operating Backbone one

Hello, ladies and gents.  I am new here and have limited understanding on many fronts when it comes to gaming.  Bummer for sure. However, I just received my Backbone One and set my phone up with the BB app.  I , however, am having issues getting into a game, I know I know...stupid boy. but it is new to me.  Anywhere I can get a demonstration on the basics of how to begin a game?

    In the following video (9:50), it says you launch a game first and then tap the Backbone button on the controller to add the game into the Backbone app, then you can launch the game from the app:
