Verbatim DVD+R discs wont load

I went and bought a 5 pack of dvd+r disks (£20 ouch). I tried to load one yesterday and the combo drive, after much whirring and clunking just spat it out again. I had previously burnt stuff onto the dvd+r provided with the laptop so the drive appears to be ok. It still accepts blank cds and plays pucker dvd's but for some reason the blanks that i bought won't load. I tried another one just in case and same story.

Are combo drives choosy about the quality of dvdr's, obviously they are, what does everybody else use.

Thanks

Is yours compatible with DVD+R or DVD-R or both? Is it compatible with these blanks' speeds? As far as I can remember, Apple used to recommend Verbatim, so I don't think the issue is with the brand itself.

Not sure about compatability it's a 12"pb with combo drive.

Should i be using dvd-r's instead then?

Sorry should also say osx 10.2.3 but i dont think the os version should matter.

Quickly looking through PB 12" tech specs, I did not find they even mention DVD+R. From Apple discussion boards:
    Quote:

I recently bought a DVD+R/RW drive for my PC, and I have a weird problem with the iBook and these disks. OS X can read DVD+RWs just fine, but not DVD+Rs, while OS 9 can read both.

You can experiment a little with DVDPlusTool.

It is changing bitsetting from DVD+RW and +R to DVD-ROM.

I found that the problem is in one of the OS's .kexts. If you look at the source, there's no support written for the OS to read DVD+Rs with the DVD+R booktype, while there is for the DVD+RWs. The only way to read a DVD+R in Mac OS X is indeed with the bit set for DVD-ROM booktype. Unfortunately, some drives are firmware blocked from setting this bit.

yeah, have to be dvd-r discs. hopefully they're going to get thier heads out of their asses and come up with one DVD setting instead of 6.

as it is now a drive usually only supports DVD-R or DVD+R
