in NON OS9 Apples - can you still install OS9 software to run in Classic
envirement in OSX
And if so - how???

yes you can. but only if you don't have to boot into OS 9.

but what happens about extensions and preferneces - where do they get written too?

remember; you are only unable to
boot
into OS 9, not running it as Classic.

There are only 2 apps that I've seen that couldn't install through classic: VPC 4 (VPC 3does) and SPSS 10. Other than that, I can't think of any.
To do it, just double click the installer and classic will launch automatically.
