I think just posting IBL!!!! a bunch is stupid. However, if you are legitimately responding to a post with say, "Sorry, this topic is being discussed elsewhere" then there's no harm in putting a little IBL at the end. But it should only be when you're already posting something anyway. Don't post IBL for the sake of posting IBL.

Would you be punished for tacking on "IBL" at the end of a legitimate post because you think the thread might get locked? I mean, as long as you're already posting something, is putting "IBL" at the end okay? What if you answer the question, and then say "but this is being discussed elsewhere so I think this topic will probably be locked." ? I mean, that's basically the same as saying IBL, but just in different words.

Well I guess that answers my question. Don't post IBL a bunch of times just to test the mods. They will delete your post. But I didn't get locked out! And I think it still counted for my post count!!!

( For those of you that didn't notice I posted just between Luca's posts, lots of IBL's! )

It was mildly cute and caused a chuckle the first 400-500 times I saw it done.

I think IBL are funny. It's like some silly game, that's all. I don't mind scrolling by those type of posts. It's sad they'll force them out.

you know, another real problem here at AI is that Amorph will come along, say something real nice like to wrap up the answer, then there's nothing left to say for everyone else.

i say we suspend Amorph's posting privleges for 24 hours after every one of those posts, to give the other AI members a chance.....

If the nature of the thread calls for a legitimate response, why would we lock it, rather than merge it or move it to a more appropriate forum?

Besides, I'm trying to remember if I've ever seen a real-world example of what you're talking about. And failing.

[edit: Well, you know, I could probably stand to take the odd day off. ]

You need a hobby, or something.

Seriously, if three infantile letters get a rise out of you, find some porn or something.

I have plenty of hobbies, like teasing cranky administrators

I'm just sorry there are folks like you who see the administrator thing as such a chore. Okay I'll let you go back to your porn now.

IBL? What's the big deal? Yeah they are useless posts, but sometimes riotously funny. I reckon the crux of this problem is that someone's got a bug stuck up their arse....
