iChat buddy list problems

Whenever I try and add a buddy to my iChat list, they don't show up for some reason. They can IM me, and still won't show up. I have tried adding them through the address book, as well as dragging their name from the participants drawer in the IM window. Still no luck. Any ideas on how to fix this?
