What is Grab.app, and how does it differ from the good old screen cap key strokes (Apple Shift 3) in the OS 9 Finder?



How come Grab is always listed in my "Finder/Services" menu, but it is always dimmed (unavailable)? I cant really use it from the menu as it suggests.



How can I take a screen cap of my Finder window's ENTRIE contents in list view?



When I launch Grab.app, It won't let me take screen caps of my Finder's window contents. The "Capture/Window..." option is dimmed.



Are the screen cap key strokes (Apple Shift 3) in OS X different than from OS 9?



Are there hidden screen cap features in OS X that you want to tell me about perhaps? Any sneaky tricks?

    I don't know much about grab, but command-shift 3 still works. It puts a pdf on your desktop

    CMD-SHFT-4 will let you take a selection of the screen and cap it (NO MORE FORCED SQUARES LIKE OS 9 EITHER!)

    cmd - shift - 4 then hit the space bar when you get the selection cursor turns it into a camera. you select a window, it takes only that window.

    Yeah, that's pretty nifty. It will also let you select the menubar, the dock, and icons.

    But only the part of the window currently shown on screen right? It DOESN'T snap a cap of the window's ENTIRE contents, correct? How do I do that?

    this is porbably no help at all, but theres a (command line) program (since osx.2 i think) in /usr/bin called "screencapture". it acts like cmd-shft-3. there are also some command line options.



    the idea behind screen capturing has always been to take a picture of something you can already see on your monitor though (atleast thats how i thouht of it). so if you won't or can't open a window full size, then i doubt screen capturing will manage. if you could get the window to open fully, then you could probably capture it.

    depending on your mac, you might also have a copy of Snapz Pro X which extends built-in CMD-Shift-3/4 screengrab functionality to add video (including DVD grab with some cards)

    Really? I just found it on a UT site somewhere. Did Oswald get misquoted, or is he stealing material, or is it a joke? I just thought it was funny and accurate. Let me know so I can go give Oswald a hard time! :0)

    What about printing out a Finder window's contents like in OS 9's "File/Print Window" option. Can I do THAT in OS X?

    In the window: Select All > Copy

    Actually, if you've got Print Center in your dock, just grab the folder and drag it onto the PrintCenter icon. Or, if the window is open, grab folder icon in that window's title bar and drag it onto Print Center.



    Easy-peasy.
