Question about using 27" iMac as External Monitor for new Mac Mini with a Luna Display
I had hoped to wait until the M4 Studio was released but my Intel iMac with a Core i9 is just frustratingly slow. On a side note, anyone else with an iMac Core I9 notice how slow it has become with the newest macOS installed?
The new Mini looks like a pretty good deal so I am considering getting one instead of waiting for the Studio next summer. But I love my iMac 5K monitor. I have done a bit of research and it looks like the Luna Display is my best bet to use it as an external monitor. I have never heard of this company so I am a bet weary. Has anyone else use it to convert their 5K iMac into an external display?
Are there any other products to consider? Thanks in advance

These options need to be setup on the mini in order to send the video over USB-C so you would need another monitor to do this. This can be a cheap spare monitor.
Another possibility is to use a pass-through capture card like this:

It won't do 5K resolution but Luna and Duet don't do full speed 5K either and this won't require setup on the mini, it captures the video output straight. This might get hot using it for streaming 24/7 though.
Another option would be to sell the iMac and put the money towards either a Studio Display or a 3rd party display:
