Intel demos future 4.7 ghz chip, what about us?

Here is the link where Intel announces the 4.7 and states the 3 will be here this year.

I know the Mhz myth the mhz myth, but come on. At least the bastards at IBM or Moto, or Apple even could give us something to look foward to besides Intels backside. As we all know its the OS that matters to us, but performance is what most new buyers ask about, especially since most CPU salesman say XP is as easy to use as X, if they even mention Mac to a customer. Hopefully IBM will help us out at the chip conference in Oct.

After October 15th there will no longer be any doubt that those "over 160 instructions" are Altivec and that the chip must be for apple. Sense there aren't really any other buyers of a desktop PPC besides apple. Steve will have to make a statement on the chip Otherwise no one will buy hoping for a G5 soon. He will admit thats it for Apple and give us a time frame of release. He'll most likely say "about 7 months". It could be a lot sooner though if things go well at IBM.

\tThis is not based on inside info besides the fact that I know the IBM chip has been designed for apple.

\t The dates are speculation based on evidence available to anyone.

    It's threads like this.

It's the constant bitching and Doom and Gloom

That has or is killing AI's reputation.

This "used" to be a great place for Mac info.

Now it's great if you wanto to see 50 threads bitching about Price or how Apple Powermacs aren't fast enough.

    Congrats <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />

Here's something to look forward to, Hmurchison:

    Apple BENDS OVER.

Intel SQUEEZES out a bead of KY-JELLY.

Micro$oft sprinkles on some COARSE-GRAIN SAND.

Dell REAMS APPLE IN THE BACKSIDE.

How's that for an alternative to the "gloom and doom" you're whining about?

JYD, I didn't figure you for such an unabashed optimist. I don't think they'd use K-Y. AIDS infested simian sperm, maybe...

    ewwwwwwwwww u guys are nasty.

Seriously though. This was a Tech Demo. No mention of ship dates and only one site mentioned extreme cooling methods.

I wouldn't worry too much..the competition is never to far behind(shhh I can hear the jokes coming right now)

JYD: ahem...lets chill out a little.

Keep the thread on topic or it gets locked and I don't want to see FH full of locked threads again.

To get back on topic, frankly the fact that Intel is running at 3GHz, 4GHz, 10GHz matters less and less each day. I actually think consumers are starting to realize that there is more to it than that, especially with both AMD and Apple pushing MHz Myth type marketing, and Intel will have to follow suit soon too with their new processor that runs "slower" than the Pentium 4.

    "It's threads like this."

    Sure.

"It's the constant bitching and Doom and Gloom"

    Terrible.

"That has or is killing AI's reputation."

Er...which of the many corpses are you referring to?

What reputation? It was in tatters years ago following its collapse as a 'rumours' site. It's a glorified message board now. (One of the best though.)

"This "used" to be a great place for Mac info."

    (You're going back some...)

"Now it's great if you wanto to see 50 threads bitching about Price or how Apple Powermacs aren't fast enough."

Maybe those 'bitch threads' you're 'bitching' about will cease when Apple addresses the performance issue by bringing competitive 'future hardware' into 'current hardware'.

    I can hear the loyalists now..., '4.7 gig. Yes but...an overclocked 1.25 gig to 1.5 G4...in a quad-processor on a genuine 266 bus and genuine 266 ram...zzz...system will...'

Bend over Apple...take it like a man...

    Lemon Bon Bon

(Amusing post, JD, as always...keep them coming.)
