Ti as a terminal?

I have a Ti book and am hoping to use it configure some routers and network switches at work. Currently I use a PC laptop that has a serial port and run the PC as a dumb terminal. Is there a good usb to serial converter and isn't there some command you can type in before logging in to OSX that will allow the Ti to act as a terminal?

Maybe that's what you need?

And on the login screen, you can type in >console for the user name and log in I believe. Though you can exit out of that rather easily.
