well, DVD Video is a locked format. any information about the format from 2001 will still be applicable today. the spec hasn't changed any since it's inception 5+ years ago.

I believe these are the following formats from the DVD Forum

    DVD-R

    DVD-RW

    DVD-RAM

The competing group is the DVD+RW forum, or whatever, which supports DVD+R and DVD+RW. The Sony drive supports all but DVD-RAM, and also includes CD-R and CD-RW. Of course, DVD-ROM is included in both groups.
