It's not that hard really, hardest part is sometimes getting that little screw out that holds the RAM shield down.

Make sure you have a #0 Phillips screwdriver handy, and the end isn't worn at all.

Oh, and if we're not talking about a dual USB model, go here and select your model.

Dude, it's the Cinema iBook. Ideal for raves (think iTunes visuals), home theatre (DVD), you name it. And at $999 it's a steal!!!

Be forewarned: typing is a bitch. You have to hop from key to key, and the keyboard repeat rate screws up your emails if you don't hop fast enough.

As it happens I just had to go through the procedure for the first time to upgrade my 900MHz iBook to 384MB RAM.

Follow the instructions on the Apple website or the manual that came with your unit. The two biggest hurdles:

    1. As stated above, getting those two small screws out that are in the RAM shield. I couldn't find anything small enough using makeshift methods. Went to a hardware store, bought a precision screwdriver set, then returned it when I was finished.

    2. Snapping the RAM into the slot. Make sure you insert the RAM at an angle, as the diagrams show. However, you've got to use quite a bit of force to get it in there all the way. It's a bit worrying because you don't want to damage anything. But if you simply push it in and down without actually locking it all the way in, you'll just have to open the iBook back up again because it won't work. So don't be afraid to use force. Just be careful. After the RAM is fully into the slot, remember to push down on it until it lays flat and you hear a click.

I just put a 512 MB stick in my iBook last night and I have to say that those are some tiny ass screws. I didn't have a #0 phillips screwdriver so I drove over to a buddy's house to install it there. Its not too hard at all, but those damn screws!
