According to the Expo Paris Keynote, Jobs said that all their (NEW) models of mac's will only boot into Mac OS X, "INCLUDING" the faster models of current models. Jobs says this around 1hour 27seconds into the speach. Check it out and tell me what you think.

I can't wait until 2003!!

So.. what you're saying is that Apple's going to ship faster Macs in the future? Well.. this _is_ a forum for future hardware so I guess you're on topic but come on! This is a silly topic. Just end it!

The 400 yikes was "released", but I don't think it ever shipped. They downgraded everything by 50MHz and the 400MHz G4 that shipped was another board (whose "name" escapes me now)

The Great Speed Dump marked a turning point for Apple. It was all down hill from there. Things have flattened out but Apple's CPU situation is a huge disappointment.

You had a 400MHz Yikes that shipped in September 1999? I thought what they did was bumped everyone who ordered one in the small window between the announcement and the downgrade up to a 400MHz Sawtooth.

Then later the Yikes was discontinued and the entire line was Sawtooth.

Hmm, just checked, seems there was around six weeks between the G4 announcement, and the speed drop announcement - so I guess you got in there quickly!?

Yeap. Those who ordered the 400Mhz Yikes before Apple dumped down the speed were granted the 400Mhz Yikes models
