Not good at saying goodbye

For some reason my PB's modem hangs on disconnecting, and nothing short of a restart seems to fix it. So I see the "disconnecting...." message scrolling through my menu bar for more than 15 minutes on some occasions.

In general, using iChat seems to reduce this behaviour, for some reason.

Any suggestions?

go into terminal and run top

get the id # of the PPPD process (or something like that I cant remember exactly)

    press q

    type "sudo kill ####"(the #)

    type your password

if it doesn't work the first time try it again

this happens to me when I use my v60c as a usb modem...

    should work fine...

Thanks. I'm pretty comfortable with using the terminal, but none of the things I've killed so far worked. So next time it happens I'll keep my eyes open for the PPPD process....

Bummer. Killing the pppd process brings everything to an immediate halt. At least the multilingual message about needing to restart is nice!

Any ideas about killing modem-related processes that won't bring my PB down?
