Looking for a passage in LoTR
I seem to remember a spot somewhere in the Lord of the Rings trilogy (the books) where Frodo mentions that he forgot to bring his journal/notebook or something like that. I am sure I will re-read the books eventually, but right now, I have other books on my plate, so if anyone could help me out, that would be great. It's probably just one sentence buried somewhere amdist many many other sentences, but if anybody knows where it is (or even that I'm not imagining it) that would be fantastic.
Thanks

I think so but I don't have time to find it right now. It would be in Fellowship of the Ring, around the time Frodo gets to Rivendall. I think its in a conversation with Bilbo in the chapter "Many Meetings" but can't say for certain.
Any other insights are appreciated...
Frodo doesn't keep a journal on the road, so I was thinking any such conversation would have to be in Rivendell. I didn't find it in Fellowship either, only a reference by Bilbo that he wanted poems and lore when Frodo returned. So I checked through Return of the King as well. Bilbo is getting a bit senile (he is after all 129) and asks Frodo if he still has the Ring (Many Partings). Frodo says no, he lost it and Bilbo remembers that was the point of Frodo's trip. Then Bilbo says ". . . Collect all my notes and papers, and my diary too, and take them with you, if you will. You see, I haven't much time for the selection and the arrangement and all that. Get Sam to help, and when you've knocked things into shape, come back, and I'll run over it. I won't be too critical."
And then in "The Grey Havens" Frodo presents The Red Book to Sam, in which Frodo has written his part of the tale.
So I think it's a general confusion of Bilbo asking about the Ring and his passing on of his notes.
I'm afraid I answered too much in haste before.

Yes.
And Fangorn...while I could be imagining it, I'm really seem to remember Frodo bemoaning to himself the fact that he neglected or forgot to bring along a journal or notebook. For some reason I feel like it was later in the series, but that could be total speculation on my part.
I have them all (and the hobbit etc.)
EDIT: This post almots did the unthinkable. My poor poor post count....

Oh, this is going to drive me nuts because it sounds just familiar enough that you could be right. I've only read the books fifty jillion times, but this might require fifty jillion and one. Thing is, I can't recall an event (other than Bilbo) that would prompt Frodo to wish he had brought a journal.
