Mac Office User Needs Help!

Guys,

I resisted pressure from sork to have a home PC for the days I work at home, telling them that if I have Office for the Mac the documents are interchangeable seamlessly.

But it isn't true!

My Mac Word will read all PC Word files sent to it. I can open, modify, and save. BUT, when I send the document back I would say 80% of the time the PC will refuse to open it.

What am I doing wrong, if anything? I just save the document as is, I don't do 'save as' and choose different formats. I use on the Mac, and Outlook at the office.

I need help, otherwise work may force me back to the Dark Side.........

Cheers

David

PS can't have 2 computers at home - no space. So it's Office compatability or the unthinkable.

i had the same problem. Word 2k (at home) for the pc manages to open everything ok but Word 97 (at work) just sulks. I ended up sending stuff as rtf and converting it once i got it open. excel stuff seems ok and i haven't convinced our mail gateway to accept Office X powerpoint presentations yet.

From the 'Save as...' window there should be a tick box, 'Append file extension'. I think this is off by default and needs to be on.

The Windows version of Word likes to have it's .doc at the end of a file.

Appending the file extension should almost certainly work.

If not, try saving the file as a Word 95 document.
