I'm installing a second CD-RW drive in my Daul 1.42

It's a 52x PlexWriter, and I'm wondering if I should switch position with the DVD drive, which is much slower (16x).

ok, so I just installed the drive, but it doesn't fit! The tray is too high for the door cover by about 2mm because of the curved corner shape of the slot, so it won't eject. I tried it in both upper and lower bays, but both the same. Damn!?!!

I take it that using a metal file or disk grinder is out of the question.

Could you perhaps file a bit of the edges of the cd tray?

guess what, I just spoke with Plextor tech support to make sure if I did that I wouldn't void any warranty and they said *unofficially* it was ok.

So I guess I'll be filing for the rest of the evening.

Don't start filing yet! Many, many CD drives can have their bezel thing removed. It's not that pretty but it does make the tray smaller. A friend of mine recently sold his black Apple OEM 2x Superdrive for a ridiculously high price and now he uses a beige Pioneer 4x Superdrive with the front part removed. It fits fine in his 933 MHz G4 and although it's beige, it was definitely worth the $270 or so he got from selling his Apple superdrive.

hey, you're right - I just popped it off. And it looks fine (the tray is black too!)
