According to c/net, Apple already lost that race...
"Editors' note:
Sony has added a built-in DVD-RW drive to the VAIO PCG-GRX line with two updated notebooks, the GRX670 and GRX690. With this move, Sony becomes the first notebook maker to integrate a DVD-rewritable drive into a laptop. Sony has also updated the GRX line to offer 2GHz Pentium 4-M processors, memory that is expandable to 1GB, and hard drives up to 60GB. In addition, the upgraded notebooks feature Click To DVD software, a Sony-developed package for DVD editing and burning. Check back soon for full reviews of the notebooks and software."
