Help OSX says - Scanner can't be found!
Hi,
I just bought a canoscan lide 30 to go with my ibook 800. I'm running 10.2.6 plus classic. I followed the instructions in the manual(such as they were!) to the letter and installed the software. First I booted into 9 and installed the classic software including the PhotoStudio app. then I booted into X and installed the canon drivers. The installation process is a confusing beast as there does not seem to be any scanning software for X.
anyway, If I boot in 9, both PhotoStudio and Photoshop allow me to scan OK. But If I boot into X then:
Apple System profiler recognises the canon scanner but:
1) If I run the CanoScan Toolbox it doesn't list a scanner to choose in the setup box - the pop up menu is blank and unresponsive
2) If I run Photostudio then classic loads followed by Photostudio. However when I try to scan anything it tells me that no scanner was found so this driver if being terminated?
WTF?
Does anyone know how to get my scanner working in X?
thanx

If you need the other SW on the CD, install it first then the DLed drivers after. If you add a program that will accept the ScanGear driver (e.g. PhotoShop) later on, re-run the ScanGear installer. If you later try to scan and it says it can't find the scanner, re-run the installers. I've found that some software updates or something have disabled the driver requiring reinstallation.
It's always good practice to get drivers for your peripherals off the web, not off the CD as the are almost always out of date.
Hope this helps you.
thanx for your reply.
I have redone the installation but seem not to be able to use the scanner in X natively. I assume I have downloaded the latest drivers (they were the ones listed as native mac os x 10.1.5 or later.
I'm a little confused as to how you scan in X. I don't have any imaging software native to X and can't seem to fathom how to scan using the toolbox. If I click on the setup / settings button in the toolbox I get a dialogue box appear. the upper portion of the dialog box has a pop up menu to choose a driver. this pop up menu is blank and won't reposnd to the mouse.
would it make sense to try uninstalling / reinstalling again?
thanx

Let me know if this works.
