It was configurated with a second 60 gig hd and the free doubling of RAM.
I was told it would not ship till October 25.

I bought a dual-CPU, dual-120GB Xserve a month or so ago, and it took about 2 weeks to ship. I asked around about it and was told that there were some delays in shipping due to availability, etc. of the SMART drives. I wouldn't make anything of it.
BTW, it's a sweet box - I'm thrilled with mine. Watch the drive - it's easy to unmount by bumping the front. If you rack it, try for one with a door. The lock doesn't prevent it from unmounting it, just prevents you from removing it. It's a big weakness in the design.

Could be, that's not a fancy configuration you ordered. Maybe something to it
