Booting off external hard drive via firewire. help

Ok my iMac has been dead for some time alot of friggin overlapping files that diskwarrior takes forever on. Wanted to see if i can boot from my friends firewire drive into os x or 9 whichever...



Prefably 9

How do i boot from firewire disk ?



oh and the iMac can't boot into any OS on its own so i need to force it.

    I believe you could use 'option' (aka 'alt') as a startup key. This will allow you to choose amongst all bootable system installs (like hard disk partitions, cds, external drives).

    If the FW drive is powered up and connected then if the iMac cannot boot its own hard drive it will automatically look around at all other possible boot volumes.



    Can the iMac not boot a CD? There may be a fundamental problem with the iMac.

    Its not a fundamental problem.
