iMac vs. eMac vs. PowerBook?

Hi All:

I am a switcher trying to decide between one of the iMac, eMac and 12" SuperDrive PowerBook. I would not have considered the PowerBook until the price drop this week brought it into a reasonable price range. Screen real estate is not crucial to me; I'd be happy with a 12" screen as much as a 17" one. More important to me is which of the three is going to give me the best and most consistent performance, is the most practical to have around (i.e. is the eMac's weight really a big hassle, is the iMac practical to have around or just good looking, etc.) Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

If it where me, I'd either wait abit, or get a iMac. Yeah you could get a powerbook, but I think you'd be happier with the iMac's performance. It's also got a wonderful LCD. It's stylish, fast, and doesn't run out of batteries lol. A laptop would be good to get though if your a very mobile person. If you travel alot for business and such, then you would take advantage of a laptop. But to get to the point. You could actually pick between the eMac and the iMac. The eMac, you can get a faster processor for a cheaper price, but then you lag behind on the graphics card, and ram. But, it's really up to you and what you can afford. Also if you can get the 3 yr extended warrenty, believe me, it's a good backup to have in case something would happen out of the ordinary.

    P. S If you don't want to read all my gabber up there. lol I'd go for iMac. 8)

The radeon 7500 in the eMac is just as good as the Geforce 4mx in the 17" iMac. The Geforece 2mx is twice as slow as the other two cards. I would not get the 12" PowerBook unless you actually need a protable. I bought the first PowerBook G4 and ended up selling it a year later cause it always sat on my desk. I owned an iMac 800 which I was very happy with for a year and half. I now need a laptop, so I bought a 1Ghz Tibook for $850 off apples price and love it. If you need the portability get the powerbook otherwise get the 17" iMac.

if you need portable...end of discussion

if not...the eMac is a good buy if you want to save some bucks, but the iMac is more than just a pretty face...

the iMac is much quieter than the eMac...the flat screen is highly mobile and that is nice to adjust and move to relieve stress after sitting at you mac for hours iChatting and writing to AI...the lcd uses less power....etc etc

and your friends will be jealous

Hi guy,i'm thinking of switching from PC to Mac..

Wanted to buy an Imac 17" .

But find out that the USB port of this Imac are still using ver1.1 instead of ver2.0 and also firewire 400 instead of firewire 800.

jus wondering should i buy it now or wait till they come out new model that have USB ver2.0 and Firewire 800.

my purpose of buying this imac is more on doing video editing(leisure)as i m quite interested with the imovie soft ware and the superdrive that mac offer.

But i have read quite a no of complaint from the apple forum that the imac superdrive and the latest imovie 3,iDVD,are giving a lot of problem...

Is anyone here have ever using imac to create home DVD?do u face any problem...care to share..

i m using a Canon ELURA 40MC digital camera (NTSC)and wonder is it compatible with the imac 17" for video editing.

    thks...

I never had any problem with iDVD or iMovie on the 17" iMac. It's great. You'll be waiting a long time before you see USB 2 on one I'd think.

Sit tight for a few weeks, see what happens after WWDC.
