I was looking forward to running the new Nascar Racing demo on my iBook but after a long download, it just opens up and closes immediately without any error message.. annoying, to say the least. Then I went back and checked the requirements and it said PowerPC G4 733 Mhz minimum. However does that really mean it cannot run on a G3 at all? I've never ever encountered a program that runs only on the G4 yet.. so I'd be shocked if that is the case. Wouldn't it be shame too since Apple is still selling G3-based computers??

Anyway it really sucks that i can't run this demo on my well-equipped 700 Mhz iBook.. Has anybody had any luck with a similar configuration (or at least any G3 machine)?

there's got to be another G3 user who gave Nascar Racing a try... I can't possibly be the only one, can I?

Sorry to say but you need a G4 just to run the game...

Of course not because they made the requirements, not Apple.

On the plus side, if you do have a G4, NASCAR 2003 has better frame rates than NASCAR 2002, on the same hardware, and the graphics are better!

why would they impose such a limit? Is it because the program absolutely requires Altivec? Otherwise, a G4 is pretty much just a G3, which explains why at equal frequency and on most applications, performance is about the same on a G3 as it is on a G4. In fact the Sahara G3 (which all recent iBooks are equipped with, including mine) even seems to yield better performance at equal frequency than the G4 at times..
