Reason for small hardware updates-->next year is hw year?
Maybe reason for small hardware updates are, that Apple has put all the energy for making OS X ready like what Linux is now. Look where OS X is now and how many years it has been on market.Still OS X isn't ready and some things are still slow, but direction has been good/fast.
I am sure, that during the next year Apple will put more power into hardware development and we will see a lot more faster/better hardware. As Steve has said: "Will have options during the next year."

Every update people bitch about "oh this is just a small update to hold us over until the 'big one'".
Wake up people. Small hardware updates are the routine... the "big one" is by far the exception.

I agree. Additionally Apple couldn't afford to be holding back on hardware if they had it, that's their way to make sales. When they have it it will be out - I don't think next year will be any more special than the past year (new iMac, remodelled G4s, brand new product - Xserve...).
So next year you might get speed-bumped iMacs, new PowerBooks, new pro towers with a new processor - very late in 2003 - and the processor to go in the Xserve too - though perhaps 3-6 months after the towers, so putting that into 2004).
Which is effectively no different to 2002.
small hardware.....beacuse size doesn't matter.
We all know that mhz dun matter that much.... but Apple by now must realise that it matters to switchers. Ignore that, and they are doomed.
So, lets hope Apple wakes up next year.

I fail to see where you're going with this sentiment. Apple's hardware and software development teams are separate. Moreover, I don't think OS X is lacking in comparison to Linux in any possible way; to the contrary, OS X is superior in many ways. Most concur with the assertion that Apple's poor progress in hardware has been due to Motorola. It definitely cannot be blamed on OS X.

Well, this being AppleInsider, people most likely will only ever stop complaining once Macs outperform PCs in every single spec and cost less (a.k.a. "never").

But this certainly wasn't a Powerbook year.
Apple has slipped behind some Intel laptops and it
may not be until next year before they catch up.

I doubt you'll have one by saturday, the online Apple store shows a 3-4 weeks delay. If you do find one, can you buy one for me? There are no Apple stores in Canada.
