More Comments on Scanner Software 'Disabled on G5 Processors' -

Yesterday's news had a note that the VueScan page at <a href="http://www.hamrick.com/vsm.html"; target="_blank">http://www.hamrick.com/vsm.html</a>; has a comment that:

"Please note that the shareware version of VueScan is disabled on PowerPC G5 processors."

A reader sent an interesting comment from the author of the software:

" Mike,

Thought you would be interested in the response I just got from Hamrick:

(Question Did you guys just screw the pooch and confirm that Apple is coming out with a PowerMac G5?

" I regret to say that I'm not able to provide any information about this.

Regards,

Ed Hamrick"

Interesting, don't you think.

Herb Massey "

This adds more fuel to the fire regarding expectations there will be a "G5" (or at least 7460) CPU based system announced at Macworld SF next month.

Once again, we can't know for sure till Steve declares them shipping, but it makes me wonder... <img src="graemlins/bugeye.gif" border="0" alt="[Skeptical]" />

I think Mr. Hamrick is pissed at Apple because they acted like Jackasses towards him for no apparent reason. He received a large number of nasty comments from mac users for his brash decision to discontinue his mac product.. And now he's decided to put the whole mac community in a tale spin wondering if there is a G5 coming.

So 1) He knows something we don't and has decided to go public with it to spite Apple.

or 2) he's totally yanking us.

In either event I don't think it adds any credibility to the G5 rumors. In fact, I've seen so little credible information that I think its fairly safe to say that as much as we yearn for it now, it's not ready yet, and won't be until at least the summer.

My prefered scenario is that Apple will catch us all with our pants down and blow our minds away. But recent Macworlds don't seem to set a precedent for incredible suprises. Unfortunately.

i totally agree. i would love to see G5s rolling onto steve's keynote stage, but apple and motorola haven't given me much more than disappointment on the hardware front for last couple of years. maybe i'm just a little jaded, but to take all these "rumors" as gospel is a little silly and premature. until we actually have them i'll remain skeptical, but always hopeful.
