Apple to switch to AMD?

There was a lot of talk around the media people about Apple's presence so far at Comdex this year. In the Comdex press briefing we were told that Hector Ruiz would make a "shattering" anouncement about a new licensee. As much as Dell would be a shocker to the public, the shattering news would be Apple moving to the x86 platform.
According to their earlier report, there is a large Apple presence at Comdex. Hector Ruiz's keynote takes place on Tuesday, November 19th, 2002.
Apple-x86 rumors have been floating around for years but were recently revived with rumors of x86 builds of Mac OS X. x86-based Macs, however, would fly in the face of rumors of Apple utilizing IBM's PowerPC 970 in upcoming machines.
\tSo do you guys think this is a possibility? I really doubt it. Though with AMD doing so bad I'm sure they would be happy to make chips for apple. What would a move to x86 mean to us? How hard would it really be for apple to make the switch? Could there be a way to move OS X to x86 in a way that current programs would still run? Could just maybe AMD be making a PowerPC?

Not only is this not going to happen in a million years, but there are already 14 threads on this subject.
Did you even bother to look at the forum before you started typing?
If Apple had any intention of using great big, hot-running AMD or Intel chips, they would not have spent the last year miniaturizing their entire product line and talking up the benefits of quiet, fanless computing. The iBook, PowerBook, and iMac each shrank by more than 50% in volume ? how are you going to fit the Athlon in there? How are you going to cool it? PowerMacs ship with four empty PCI slots and three empty hard drive bays, include Gigabit Ethernet, FireWire, and AirPort on the motherboard, AND power their displays as well. What kind of power supply would they have to have to also use CPU's that need more than 5 times the power? Two Athlons is getting on for 150 watts, just for the CPUs.
