eMac Update?

On Apple Canada's Website (www.apple.ca), in the online store tab, eMac now have a free shipping promotion. What does this mean??? Well, what is apple famous for doing just after a promotion?

This can point to three things.

One) Apple is planning to update the line (after WWDC) and are trying to sell off old stock. (Go!, 970, go!)

Two) Apple is planning to cut the eMac... because of poor sales. I hate the damn things so this is ok with me.

Three) Apple Canada has overstock of the under selling CRTs and needs to clear some warehouse space for "new" stock.

Or this is just wishful thinking.

I don't really think free shipping means much. As I recall, the promos that came before updates were things like "Save $300 on a display when you buy a PM," not things like free shipping. I think they are just overstocked and need to empty the warehouse.

Apple seems pretty (understandably) intent on eliminating those barriers that might drive someone from a direct purchase to a third party purchase. They've only got around 60 retail locations concentrated in metropolitan areas, so they're still pretty reliant on their Web site for direct sales. With a $50 minimum to qualify for free ground shipping, they stay away from the insanity that drove outpost.com to buckle (yeah, I know they're still around, but they're a shadow of their former selves) and move much closer to the new Amazon model.

    Makes good sense here.

What does this mean? It means, quite frankly, that if you buy an eMac through the Canadian store, you won't have to pay for shipping. Isn't that quite obvious? Maybe they looked at the bazillion other websites that sells Apple computers and have free shipping and thought to themselves, "Free shipping? Hey, maybe we should do that?" I don't know. It's just a thought. Or maybe it's their secret way of pushing out inventory to get ready for the new 2.0ghz G5 eMac which is what will really be announced at the WWDC.

I think either the iMac or eMac will have an option for a 1.6Ghz G5. Only makes sense right?

It would be great if it was in the iMac. Slim, small and powerful

It's now 6-8 or more days for eMac in Applestore Finland. Could this mean something?
