I resubitted it...but someone had already done it. It would be fun to drive the price, though.

The guy e-mailed me and told me he is an Apple employee and will have his the 7th of July. He also sent this link on why he doesn't do PayPal.

    www.paypalwarning.com

Sounds iffy to me. Still not listed as Pre-Sale.

All scammers have that URL handy.

    Um, it's not a laptop.

Unless stated otherwise items will ship 1-2 business days after payment is received and processed.

July 7 is 8 business days away.

    Certainly raises flags, anyway.

I mailed him back with this:

"Thanks for the reply. However, this auction should have been listed as Pre-Sale clearly in accordance with ebay policy. I'm sure you are aware of the various Mac scams out there. Many Mac users perceive this auction as fradulent, even if it isn't. "

But the site neglects to point out how many billion transactions have been conducted SUCCESSFULLY with PayPal. People need to liven up to the fact that the Internet is just as risky as shopping in the real world (hmm....could it be that it IS the real world?!). You can get great deals on eBay if you proceed with caution and refrain from stupidity, namely "if something's too good or too bad to be true, it probably isn't true." Simple as that.

Also, if someone has 0 feedback and is not even a registered user, you probably shouldn't buy something from them that costs $3100

And the name of the purchaser is a bit ironic, since any real investigator would probably not be dumb enough to go for an auction like that

your money with them is also FDIC insured, and they're owned by eBay now, which actually makes them a bit more responsible. The big problem before was that your money wasn't insured. Since the merger, they've cleaned up their act considerably. Anybody that still worries needs to wake the **** up and smell the maple nut crunch.
