In his WWDC Keynote, Steve Jobs says that the G5 can be outfitted with a Pro Graphic Cards by that I suspect he means Quadro and Fire cards, of course at the moment I see none are offered in the Apple stores, anyone have any idea if a user will be able to buy the cards directly from the suppliers(ATI and nVidia) and will there be and drivers out for them?

Nah, he was talking about the Radeon 9800, which is a bit of a stretch to say it is a "pro graphics card."

On the other hand, the professional cards are all essentially identical to the consumer cards, save slight driver differences and huge price markups.

i could be mistaken but in the keynote he mentioned support for "high power pro cards" or something like that."

i took it to mean support for workstation class cards was forthcoming.

Yep. He was refering to the ammount of power available to cards in the AGP slot. Pro cards consume more power.

You are right, unlike many PC cards, you can use the 9800 video card without any external power supply. the AGP pro 8x provide 75 watts.
