Would it have killed Apple to make the darn G5 two inches taller???

Rough and dirty cut and paste: the G5 mark 2!

Just like that: 2 Optical Drives, 4 Hard drives, same great look ( ) and taste!

I suspect that Apple found that people rarely used the second optical bay on the G4 towers...

Also... the G5 is engineered to get the best cooling and stuffing 4 drives into it probably would screw that up big time. Plus... drives are so huge now... if you really need that much storage, get a swappable array.

I agree with you, I can see some people needing more PCI slots, But with Firewire & USB 2.0 there are lot of external options if you need them. I know you can please everyone, but I never heard so much bitching about great new computer...Nothing perfect but this is a solid Mac.

I don't think this is 'whining about minutiae'.....we had this same damn discussion when the original el Cap designs came out, with one stinking fullsize bay, and it took Apple about 4 case revisions to finally get enough fullsize bays in there (without significantly altering the case).

Why will we have to have the same damn go-round with Apple again???

A 'pro' or 'workstation' tower with the expandability of a micro- or mini-tower is just so putting the cart before the horse that it's almost inconcievable that no one sent the whole damn thing back to Ives and told him to try again.....

The G5 is already quite a lot taller than the G4 tower.

How tall do you wanna go?

I agree that dual bays and extra drives is a fundamentally good thing, but that new G5 tower is tall enough already--they'd need a redesign before they simply made it taller.

Then cut off the bottom legs. They are superfluous, anyway.

    Current Hardware:

Why do you need more Optical drives?

    What happened to the "tower"?
