Thanks for thought of the firmware. I hadn't considered that. The tibook is a 667 Dvi and is out of warranty. I am looking for the physical location of the sleep switch so I can check to see if it functions (The G3 laptops had a reed switch that would give up the ghost from time to time.) It failed suddenly with no other symptoms. Just wont sleep when you close the lid...

Isn't it in the hinge? At least, that's where I always thought it was, based on the times that it goes to sleep... If I recall correctly, it can go to sleep without entirely shutting the top, which means that it isn't in the latch mechanism.

But, I don't have a Ti myself, and this is just my thoughts. I wouldn't go ripping through it on my word alone

Well on every other PB for the last 5 years, it's been a magnetic switch. Where said switch could be located is anyone's guess.

Download the service and repair manual for your model. Search google for it.

\ I know it is a magnetic switch but where the f**k is it? .

The book will sleep just fine with the power button and thru the menu. The diagrams are useless beacuse they on show assemblies. I suspect that the reed switch is under the trackpad but I cannnot be sure. This just is sooooo obscure of a problem....

    A bad Mobo I can handle:lol
