finicky sound balance

Weird stuff: every now and then, the sound through my headphones feels lopsided, and sure enough, when I check in the Sound Preferences, the balance has inexplicably drifted from center.

I can't pin this to any behavior or program, and I'm not using any apps that would mess with sound--just Mail, Safari, and graphics apps.

Just wondering if anyone has experienced this and if they can explain it...

TiBook 667

OS X 10.2.5

there is a tech-note on this in the TIL

when you change volume using the volume keys under heavy CPU load (iTunes seems to be enough) it can cause the sound balance to fluctuate... they should just have a "lock at midway" setting that can't be changed unless explicitly done... of course thats how it should work in the first place, but whatever...

its been happening with everyone on the boards with a Ti...

Thanks, Paul...been blasting iTunes while cranking on form-Z (in Classic), so the TiBook's definitely been under heavy CPU load lately.

Playing music loud results in heavy CPU use?
