Theresa McPherson from the Apple 'switcher' ad is selling her iMac because she could not get OS X to install properly on it. Going to a PowerBook instead.

Nice that she wrote the ad all in Caps. I wish the switch ad had been screamed.

SO WHEN I DECIDED TO START MY OWN COMPANY....

    Shhhhhh...

That's odd. How hard is it to install OS X on a Mac? I've done it 4-5 times over the past couple of years (on two of mine, one at work and two for friends).

"Don't have time to figure it out..."?

    Sigh...

Truly, I suppose she could've had a legitimate "lemon" of some sort and her troubles are genuine.

    MAYBE.

I think that it's more likely the case of a lazy consumer, tinged with a mild case of technophobia, just not wanting to delve too deep into anything beyond "Point, click, save, print".

She's a lawyer, so I really hope her attitude in this area doesn't extend to her profession: "I tried to get that appeal processed, Mr. Harker...but it was kinda complicated and I didn't have time to figure it all out. See you in 7 to 10!"

I think she just wants a new PowerBook instead anyways, and just doesnt really *care* to get OS X installed on the iMac.

I'm guessing the problem is one of two things. A.) Her drive is fsked (I doubt it because she didn't say that her iMac wasn't working, she said that OS X wouldn't install) or, B.) Her CD is fsked. This has happened to me. Right during base system install...fsck.

Neither are reasons to sell the iMac (if the hard drive problem isn't physical) so my conclusion is also that she just wants a PowerBook.

When you buy her iMac it should come with all her pertinant info like credit card numbers, website passwords, documents from home and work...etc.

Because I'm sure she DIDN'T HAVE TIME TO FIGURE OUT how to go about erasing her HD before selling it...

Hm, now I want to search for other switchers on Craigslist... Maybe it's a phenomenon. If Apple can make upgrading sufficiently hard enough to make PC switchers just give up and by new Macs every year with the new OS preinstalled...could be a boon for Apple profits. They must be so used to Microsoft headaches that they are now conditioned to throw money at problems. Cool.

Well actually when PC users do get it working they tend to not touch it or add anything else for 5 or so years. How many of us know PC users running 95/98?

First off, this broad looks like a linebacker...!?!

Second, she is a lawyer, so I bet she just wants a new PowerBook, to look cool to all of her other lawyer friends...

Third, I bet M$ is actually coercing her to sell the iMac, and is starting a subversive campaign to get 'switchers' to sell-out Apple...

Her looks have nothing to do with this thread. Grow up. She just want's a fancier machine!

P.S. The switcher campaign is simply not working. Many PC friends told me the ads were annoying.... and I'd have to agree. Apple needs a completely new ad campaign... not the preaching to the converted as they continually do. Dump Chait Day Apple.

Well, I would think that being on this hunk of rock for the past 36+ years & raising two children of my own might qualify me as 'grown-up'...

Don't let the emoticon fool you, fool...
