My friend has a powerbook with AOL to connect to the internet. At random times the AOL application will jsut launch and attempt to sign on. This will happen in hte middle of playing games, using iTunes, or even just sitting there doing nothing. I couldn't fine anything in AOL that would cause the problem. I've never really used AOL so I don't know where to start looking for solutions. Any ideas?

    take a look in the network pref pane... make sure there is no "connect to internet automatically when needed" box checked or something...

    oh, and convince them to get rid of aol!

    I'll check that. As for getting rid of AOL i told him that, but he has to convince his parents which is hard. It dosn't matter since it's only when he's home from school anyway.

    system prefs-->network

    from the dropdown menu besides 'show: '

    'PPP' tab

    PPP options button

    uncheck 'connect automatically when needed'

    there is also an option in iTunes but i dont know if that will still cause it once u've done what i said
