"The PowerPC 970 is expected to reach 1.8-2.0GHz in Q3 2003, with the source noting a July 2003 date, which--in my estimation--may be an introduction at the Summer Macworld in New York."
Unfortunately, the source Mr. Hughes is using seems to be forgetting there is no MWNY (Boston, remember, and Apple probably won't even be there!

No, the move isn't scheduled to occur until 2004; this summer's Macworld will again be in New York.

Sorry, my bad...I guess I was thinking about them not participating in any future MacWorld events:
"Today IDG announced plans to move Macworld New York to Boston in July of 2004. Apple disagrees with this decision, and will not be participating in Macworld Boston. Since IDG is no longer investing in New York, we now need to re-evaluate our participation in Macworld New York 2003. Apple will continue to participate in Macworld San Francisco in January."

Ok, you asked for it. I cannot find a language translator for this site, but
here it is. Anyone know what language this is in?
They talk about February-March time frame (I think) for the 970 arrival.
"I følge IBM vil PPC 970 "være tilgjengelig i andre halvdel av 2002". Følger vi IBMs nyeste produkt syklus, vil det si at prosessoren kan være klar allrede til februar/mars 2003. Med andre ord forventer vi en annonsering fra Apple på MacWorld Expo San Francisco i januar, med nye PowerMac og/eller XServe i butikkene i løpet av mars."
I think it will be February, and could be announced on Jan 7th, in a snazzy, new, mood-changing case.
Shrug.
MSKR
I'll take a lousy stab at it:
"IBM will probably deliver the PPC 970 before the second half of 2002. According to IBM product cycle, processors may be available in February or March 2003. Apple could pre-announce them at MacWorld Expo SF in January, with PowerMac and/or Xserve to be shipped in March."
Please, anyone who knows Norwegian?

That was my inference also, but you know how negatives can get skipped so it could read NOT in Powermacs or Xserves....
All is now clear!
Thanks, Alta Vista!

Mmmmmm......hordes......honey
Haven't found a Norwegian translator on the 'net that isn't going to charge me. I'm not that desperate....close, but not quite

Quartz Extra Extreme??
Wasn't there discussions about Mac OS X not being dependant on dpi or resolution or some such thing?

Quartz Extra Extreme??

I remember rumors of Apple designing (possibly with nVidia or someone) a graphic chipset for use in Hollywood movie making. Could this be hints of a graphics driver or something????

Thats how it sounds, even though it reads more like "If we follow IBM's newest product cycle, processors may be available in February or March 2003." <--Can anyone confirm this cycle?

It is Norwegian - here is a translation:
According to IBM the PPC 970 will be available in the second half of 2002. If we follow IBM's latest product cycle this means that the processor will be ready in February/March 2003. In other words we expect an announcement from Apple at the MacWorld Expo San Francisco in January, with new PowerMacs and/or Xserve in the shops by March.

Thanks for the clarification. Feb/March is about dead on with what I am thinking too.

If you insist
eMac not updated
Voice of Reason: Wouldn't need to be with my iMac predictions
iMac 17" for $1199
800MHz G4 Processor, GeForce 4 MX, Combo Drive
Voice of Reason: Apple's supply of GeForce 2 MXs must be running thin, Read-Only drives have been dumped from the eMac range, current stocks of 800MHz G4 motherboards can find a place. Also, Apple doesn't have any 15" displays left, customers shun the 15" display in favour of the eMac because it is higher-res, so 17" is "low-end"
iMac 17" for $1699
1GHz G4 Processor, GeForce 4 MX, Super Drive
Voice of Reason: The G4 is getting fast and cheap (Dual 1GHz upgrades, rumored 1.83GHz next Power Mac). 1GHz is a conservative guess.
iMac 19" for $1999
1GHz G4 Processor, GeForceFX Lite, Super Drive
Voice of Reason: A $1999 needs something to justify it's price tag. How about a 19" Display (Thank you, Quanta Press Release) and GeForceFX?
iBook 12" Laptop for $999
800MHz G3 Processor, Combo Drive
Voice of Reason: It would be bad (from a marketing standpoint) to have faster G3s than G4s. So 800MHz. Again, Apple is getting rid of read-only (which never should have been used after the floppy was killed)
iBook 10" Tablet for $1199
800MHz G3 Processor, Combo Drive
Voice of Reason: It would be cool
iBook 12" Laptop for $1199
1GHz G3 Processor, Combo Drive
Voice of Reason: Faster! Faster! No Super Drive because it would take away from PowerBook sales
iBook 14" Laptop for $1599
1GHz G3 Processor, Combo Drive
Voice of Reason: Some people like having the choice of a larger display (for tired eyes)
iPhone Mobile Phone for $399
Full suite of PDA features (but read-only) USB and Bluetooth Sync, new interface for text-messaging
Voice of Reason: TradeMark, and Steve Jobs conceding to the NYT that an Apple Mobile Phone would be very good
iCam digital still/video camera for $799
FireWire 2 connection to iMovie/FCP.
Voice of Reason: There is a lot of buzz inside Apple (apparently) about this MacWorld. Barring an extremly unlikly Power Mac G5 debut, how about two Digital Devices? FireWire 2 will set this camera above the rest
FireWire 2 PCI card announced for Power Mac.
Voice of Reason: Something needs to interface with the camera (at full speed)
iGrabber application to "grab" news off the internet
Voice of Reason: This is the only iApp that I could think of which doesn't already exist, but should. Most people spend 30 mins to an hour on the internet doing "regular" searching of news sites. This would simplify it, and there are plenty of existing news grabbers for Apple to rip-off
Barto
Ok.
I will spend a bunch of money on a mac and the next day Steve will announce some "Uber" mac and I will be sad.
but being sad on a mac is better than being happy on a pc... what?
flick.

Google News already does this pretty well. I don't see how Apple could improve it. Plus would you really buy a new mac for iGrabber?
Sorry for the dumb question, but is the PPC 970 the alleged new G5? I'm having troubles keeping all the codenames and models numbers straight!!!

Nobody knows. The G3/G4 designations were from Motorola. Motorola's roadmap includes a G4+ (the 7457), but no G5. IBM uses their own numbering scheme... their 750 series is equivalent to the Motorola G3, but the 970 has no equivalent from Motorola.
In the end, it's up to Apple to decide what they call the IBM 970. G5? G6? We're all just guessing here.
