New Case for 03?

I think that they should redesign the case for the powermac. I know that they just did a couple of months ago. But, why not keep things fresh. I'm not sure who created this picture. It was posted before on appleinsider, but I couldn't find the thread. All credit for the picture goes to it's rightful 'creator'.







This would be an awesome case if Apple used this design.

    I am guessing the new patent apple has for the iMood color-changing cases will be used when the 970-based macs come out.

    If Apple ever uses this patent, which I doubt they do, it will not be applied to the professional line of computers. Maybe the iPod, but I don't see the return of colors to Apple's product line. What's wrong with white and metal? Would anyone prefer the Apple Logo to be rainbow-striped again?

    I think it was Figure 9 in the patent images that clearly showed a computer, keyboard, mouse, monitor etc, doing this. Also, figure 10 showed the computers networked, as if this can be tunneled through IP or somesuch.



    I like the current line of colors, but it depends on what this technology brings. It is triggered off system events and other operating system functions. Sounds interesting to say the least.

    I agree the current look is fine indeed. Yuck to that rainbow BTW,



    They wont change the case till the end of 03 I woudld think, that is if ofcourse they do.

    No matter what the case looks like, lets hope it has same accessability as the El Capitan. Besides, I like the case as it is.



    The iMood lights won't be used on a pro machine. Ever. What use would they serve? They just add to the "ooo look at that" factor. This would just add to the "macs are toys" attitude. They are a total consumer thing, not at all professional.

    Don't think of them as mood lights. More like a system/cpu/event monitor, like the cpu monitor app in Applications/Utilities.



    Perhaps an unmanned, or a system that is used and then not monitored for a while, like rendering, would indicate that an error occured, it is finished, etc... That's kinda what I read into the patent description. But hell, those things read like Perry Mason scripts. Who the hell knows what it may or may not be used for. Knowing Apple, it'll be useful; they haven't done cosmetic stuff as 'eye-candy' for some time. Mostly function over fun.

    There was a discussion about the startup-sound here on AI not so long ago. Some argued that the sound indicates a successful boot-up and was therefore useful. Well I'm not sure about the importance of audio feedback. I didn't like the system-sounds in OS9 at all. Turned them off after a while. They were more annoying than helpful to me.

    So, visual feedback, like described in this patent, also looks more annoying than helpful to me. Just another flashy (pun intended) feature which gets in your way after some time. My question is: what could be a truly useful application for visual feedback?

    I don't know why my picture isn't showing up. Anyone have ideas. I can see it, but no one else can. I trashed my interent cache but, I can still see it.
