I was wondering if anyone knew of any good photoshop tutoials on aqua-like effects, as well a porcelin and other types of shiny and/or reflective surfaces. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
I'm not sure if this is the best way to do what you want but if you go to the Photoshop site you can down load actions that might get the effect your looking forward.. and if you reverse engineer them you can find out how they did it.
Photoshop 7 Down And Dirty Tricks has the aqua buttons, widgets for open close and min, brushed metal, and tabs...if you dont want to buy the book (although its good and it seems any book by scott kelby is good) i've taken a picture of the pages for you and have them ready if you'd lik eme to send you them just provide an email
careful use of the "plastic wrap", "lighting effects", and "glow" filters on selected semi-transparent layers can usually produce the surface textures you're describing.

Yes, that's a great book. I had the one for Photoshop 6, a year or so ago, at a previous job. It was VERY cool. Full, blazing color and step-by-step, plain-English instructions for doing for VERY nice-looking stuff in Photoshop.
here are some excerpts from the book on the aqua effects...it has many other cool effects that i am not going to show because well...u should really buy the book if it interests you
i'm glad their useful...so i hope you are still planning on buying the book though? (haha perhaps u should at least lie to me so i dont feel like i ripped kelby off)
You owe it to yourself to buy "Photoshop 7 Down And Dirty Tricks". It transformed me from an artistically deficient programmer to someone who can great some nice widgets and other useful art

Just do a google search (it's what I did) and you'll discover TONS! Some better than others, of course. But they're definitely out there.
