Aesthetics:G4 vs G5 vs PC

The G4 case design is cool and hip, the sleekness makes it look fun and stylish, you could see it on a Paris runway where as most PCs you'd find off the rack.

The G5 design is pure monster. I looks like it can eat any Personal Computer alive. It's a scary MoFo, I'd pit it against a squad of over pumped Ahnald Terminators and be confident that it would spit out a roll of tinfoil when it was done.

I reserve judgement until I have seen the G5 physically, not just on photos.

I agree with this. I'm sitting next to a MDD G4 which looked butt-ugly on the web, but is actually pretty nice looking.

El capitan was a winner design, It had everything, easy access to expansion, handles, curves, gloss...etc.

all the variants of el capitan were also very nice, particularly MDD and quicksilver.

that said, the g5 DOES look powerful, it does look like it would eat any inferior machine for lunch. But that's in the pictures, I'm sure it's just as intimidating in person, but that grating on the front might look worse in real life.

I love both designs, though I am more partial to the G5--new times, new flavors.

I also see it as Steve's way of trying to get us to swallow brushed metal interfaces.

I just got back from Macworld and can say that I love the new G5 case. The speed holes in the front do not look bad at all. When viewed from the front you cannot see through it at all, but when viewed at an angle it is semi-transparent. The case is taller than the El Capitan case, but it is not massive like a PM 9600. This really is the perfect case. I have a feeling that most users will run it with the door off. It screams powerful with the panel on. With the side panel off it says that not only will it beat you up and take your milk money, but then go home and boink your mom.

I like the G5 case because it's mean looking, aluminum, and includes ports in the front. Way cooler looking than any PC case.

    What I meant was:

I see the G5 case design as a step back towards the mainstream PC look (at a purely superficially skin deep level) whilst maintaining a resonance with the traditional El Capitan design.

The G5 is taller, boxier, aluminium (like some PC enclosures) and generally less 'Different' than El Capitan. It still retains a stylish, unified design and handles (obviously Apple).

This is all purely about the look of the new enclosure. One look at the inside and it's Apple all the way. NO PC manufacturer has put nearly as much thought into the functionality or layout of the case as Apple has done with this new G5. No obvious cables, thermal zones, easy access all point towards serious effort on Apple's part to design a case that is PURE form follows function. I'm no fan of the new look, but I'll reserve juddgement until I see one in the flesh. Once some fabourable real world tests start rolling in for Maya peformance, no doubt I'll throw down au$5,599 for a dual 2Gig.

All I want is a fast, stable, cost effective machine. The aesthetic of the case is by the by for me. The dual 2GHz looks to be a winner...
